Iron Fist is a two-story Chinese restaurant and bar located in Blok M, South Jakarta. The Blok M area is known as “Little Tokyo” due to the large number of Japanese-owned businesses nearby.
The Blok M is dominated by modernist architecture from the 1960s and 1970s. The design concept for the restaurant’s exterior was to restore the building facade to its original state, with the cement exposed, giving it a very modernist aesthetic.
A similar design was used indoors, with the existing walls and ceilings exposed, giving it a very novel feel. The glass curtain walls of the two floors are designed to be set back from the original facade, creating an open and airy semi-outdoor space for customers.
The long linear flower beds along the wall and the gravel floor add an outdoor atmosphere to the area. Colorful LED RGB neon strip light boxes are installed on each floor of the restaurant, which look like old Hong Kong neon signs and this element also formed the basis of the design concept.
